Arizona Foam Roofing
Have you ever wondered what foam roofing is, or where it started? Below is a brief explanation of where foam roofing came from.
Urethane foam technology emanates from polyurethane chemistry, a unique branch of chemistry developed in the 1930’s. During the 1950’s, urethane foam became commercially available in the United States, and by the early 1970’s, urethane foams were being specifically designed for roofing applications. Urethane foam, also commonly referred to as PUF, is a remarkable roofing material that functions as both structural insulation and waterproofing. During application, special equipment combines separate chemical components causing a chemical reaction that produces foam on whatever surface the chemical mixture is sprayed. The reaction produces a monolithic membrane, meaning there are no seams or joints. This membrane contains both closed cells filled with an insulating gas and open cells that allow the passage of gases including water vapor. Urethane foam is not UV stable and must be covered or coated.
Left uncovered, the strong Arizona sunlight will deteriorate the “skin” and cell surfaces of foam roof coating causing a gradual disintegration or “vanishing” of the foam. The foam coating or covering is extremely important to the long-term effectiveness of the urethane foam roof. It must protect against sunlight (UV) deterioration, physical damage, water penetration, and must allow the foam to breathe.
Some urethane foam roofs in Arizona that were installed in the 1970’s are still functioning perfectly due to proper maintenance and re-coating. However, there are many more urethane roofs that have deteriorated due to external damage or lack of maintenance.
In Arizona, our unique desert foam roofs will deteriorate and fail over time if not properly maintained. The strong UV rays will eat through Elastomeric coatings. Here at Canyon State Roofing & Consulting, we take the time to properly complete recoats on our unique Arizona foam roofing systems. Weather it’s a repair, residential roof maintenance, or a completely new foam re-roof, we can provide your roof with the services it needs!
Below are some pictures of some foam roofs that failed due to improper maintenance or lack of proper coating maintenance:
Our Reviews
The entire team at Canyon State Roofing deserves a 5-star rating. This includes Jim (owner), Robyn (administrator), Joe (sales), Mike (job foreman), and the entire roof removal and installation crew. Canyon State's level of customer service and attention to detail is truly top notch. Robyn in the office was friendly, personable, and quick to respond to any needs or questions. Joe was patient with my questions, provided thorough descriptions of the remediation my roof might need, provided samples to help me choose the right shingle, and worked with me to find the right solution for my budget and long-term home ownership goals. On the day of my roof installation, Canyon State's friendly crew covered my entire yard and plants with heavy duty tarps to prevent damage and, after the job was completed, the team carefully removed the tarps, swept the driveway, went over the yard with a magnet for loose nails, and disposed of all leftover debris, leaving my yard safe and tidy. Throughout the installation, I was kept apprised of the schedule and any issues. My new roof is beautiful and will protect my home for years to come. More importantly, I have every confidence that should there be an issue, Canyon State will make it right. I give them my highest recommendation - impeccable!!!
Canyon State Roofing did an excellent job replacing the underlayment on my tile roof. From the beginning, meeting with Jim to see which option of roofing material worked best for us, to working with his foreman, Miguel who began and completed the job, was a pleasant experience. They were professional and courteous. Jim explained our options and answered all of our questions. Miguel and his team cleaned up daily…….we never knew they had been at the house, except for the changes you could see on the roof. We were kept up to date with the process. I highly recommend Canyon State Roofing for your roofing needs. Give them a call.
Great service and our roof looks fantastic. From start to finish we had great communication and the crew was wonderful. Thanks to Jim, Miguel and the crew!
From the owner, support staff, to the roofers who worked at my house, the service was great! All were very friendly and professional. They showed up when they said they would, did what we agreed to and did it with hard work and a smile. The work was completed in two days and cleaned up. The quality of the installation was outstanding. I’m confident that I will have no issues with workmanship or materials. I highly recommend Canyon State Roofing.
