In 2015 we had Canyon State Roofing remove the shingles from our house and install a metal roof. This was a complex and detailed-oriented project and I chose Canyon State because of their expertise in a style of roof that, for example, is very common in Tornado Alley where we once lived but is less often used in Phoenix despite the sometimes severity of our Monsoon storms. The roof has performed above...far above...our expertations! Fast forward to this January: the flat...non-metal roof on the back portion of our house (which had been installed by another company in 2008) was beginning to worry us as it seemed like it was approaching the end of its lifespan. So, I contacted Canyon State and to my pleasant surprise was told that a complete redo was not needed but that instead recoating and repairing the seems and edges was all that was needed. And...that making these improvements now would hold us for many years to come. The crew always arrived on time and on schedule. They were absolutely fastidious about cleaning up each day and keeping us up to steam on the progress of the project. When the project was completed they provided photos of their work for our records. I am 101% pleased with Canyon State Roofing! Greg

The entire team at Canyon State Roofing deserves a 5-star rating. This includes Jim (owner), Robyn (administrator), Joe (sales), Mike (job foreman), and the entire roof removal and installation crew. Canyon State's level of customer service and attention to detail is truly top notch. Robyn in the office was friendly, personable, and quick to respond to any needs or questions. Joe was patient with my questions, provided thorough descriptions of the remediation my roof might need, provided samples to help me choose the right shingle, and worked with me to find the right solution for my budget and long-term home ownership goals. On the day of my roof installation, Canyon State's friendly crew covered my entire yard and plants with heavy duty tarps to prevent damage and, after the job was completed, the team carefully removed the tarps, swept the driveway, went over the yard with a magnet for loose nails, and disposed of all leftover debris, leaving my yard safe and tidy. Throughout the installation, I was kept apprised of the schedule and any issues. My new roof is beautiful and will protect my home for years to come. More importantly, I have every confidence that should there be an issue, Canyon State will make it right. I give them my highest recommendation - impeccable!!!

I am happy to highly recommend Canyon State Roofing and Consulting. We had leaks in multiple areas and knew it was time for work. We had four estimates for our project and felt quite good about a few of the businesses, but here is why we went with Canyon State for our Re-Roof – they were quick to get back to us and schedule an inspection; they (Miguel [Onsite Project Manager], Jim [Owner], Robyn [Scheduler], and Crew) were always kind, considerate, knowledgeable, and patient with questions; the inspection was thorough and included photos and drone photos; Miguel conducted the inspection and thoroughly explained the recommended work and indicated he would be our daily point-of-contact throughout the project; Canyon State has the credentials – A+ BBB since 1996, Clean ROC License (License, Bonded and Insured), Tile Roofing Institute certified, and a Rosie on the House Certified Contractor; they guaranteed the crew would be in-house installers not subcontractors; they offered the best warranties with their contractor warranty matching the manufacturer warranty; and they were absolutely cost competitive. So how did it go? Well, they got us on the schedule promptly; Miguel did an excellent job keeping us informed on progress and works; the crew worked every day (except Sunday) - beginning each day at the same prompt time; the crew cleaned-up daily before leaving the site; we even had a rain event during the install and while Miguel assured us they prepared for that, he still came out to inspect the site that evening. The roof and workmanship by the Crew looks great. Miguel truly took his time to explain the technical aspects of the project and how things needed to be done during installation to ensure the quality work that would guarantee our home would have a roof we could trust for years to come. He was onsite daily to ensure that quality workmanship. And now we are happy to be able to look forward to enjoying rainstorms again!

Jim, owner of Canyon State Roofing & Consulting sent Managing Superintendent Miguel Beltran to our home for an estimate to replace all roofing underlayment. We built our custom home 28 years ago and it was time for replacement. Miguel was the project leader and would stop by every day in his travels to physically check every aspect of his crew's work in-progress, informing myself as well. The crew performed excellent craftsman work. Very professional courteous workers. Every morning this dedicated crew was at my home, 0:700 am starting time ready to accomplish their planned sections of roofing for that day. This crafted crew was always thinking a few steps ahead to accomplish that common goal. Always thoroughly cleaned up at the end of each day. The hardest part of our job was to pick a reliable trusted roofing company, and we did just that… We highly recommend Canyon State Roofing & Consulting.

Is It Time To Repair Or Replace Your Shingle Roof?

Specks And Particles In Your Gutters

    Clogged Gutters With Roofing Debris

When cleaning your gutters, pay attention to any accumulation of specks and particles that resemble shingle granules. As shingles age or sustain damage, they tend to shed granules, which can end up in your gutters.

    Twisting Or Misshapen Shingles

    Curling, Broken, Or Loose Shingles

If you notice twisting or misshapen shingles on your roof, it could be a clear sign that your shingle roof needs fixing. Shingles should lie flat and uniformly across your roof’s surface. When they become warped or misaligned, it indicates potential damage.

Damp And Darkened Shingles In Phoenix

    Dark, Damp, Or Moss-Covered Shingles

Damp or darkened shingles are a telltale sign of moisture-related issues with your roof. When shingles become saturated with water, they lose their effectiveness and can deteriorate rapidly. Dampness or darkened areas on shingles suggest that water is being trapped or absorbed.

Attic And Ceiling Leaks And Holes Due To Roof Issues In Phoenix

Attic And Ceiling Leaks And Holes

If you notice water stains, damp spots, or actual water dripping from the ceiling, it indicates that water is penetrating through the roof. Leaks and holes can result from damaged or missing shingles, deteriorated flashing, or compromised roof structures.

Stains And Cracked Paint On Ceiling And Walls

Stains & Cracks On Ceilings Or Walls

If you notice stains or cracked paint on your ceiling and walls, it may indicate water seepage from your shingle roof. Water can travel along rafters and beams, causing damage to the interior of your home.

Increase In Energy Costs Due To Shingle Roof Damage

Rising Energy Bills During Hot Months

If you’ve noticed a significant increase in your energy costs, your shingle roof might be to blame. Damaged or poorly insulated roofs allow air to escape, leading to increased energy consumption for heating and cooling your home.

    Deterioration In Specific Areas

    Localized Roof Wear Or Deterioration

Keep an eye out for signs of localized deterioration on your shingle roof. This may include areas with missing shingles, visible cracks, or sections where the granules have worn off. Deterioration can occur due to age, weather exposure, or underlying structural issues.

Frequently Asked Questions About Shingle Roofing

Both metal roof shingles and asphalt shingles have their advantages and considerations. Metal roof shingles offer exceptional durability, longevity, and resistance to fire, rot, and pests. They are also energy-efficient and can be recycled at the end of their lifespan. Asphalt shingles, on the other hand, are more affordable, widely available, and easier to install. They offer good durability and a range of styles and colors to choose from.
In the hot climate of Phoenix, shingle roofs typically have a lifespan of 15 to 20 years. However, many factors can influence the longevity of your shingle roof, including the quality of materials, installation techniques, maintenance, and exposure to extreme weather conditions. Regular inspections and prompt repairs are essential to maximize the lifespan of your shingle roof. Our roofing experts can assess the condition of your roof and provide recommendations.
The lifespan of a shingle roof can vary depending on factors such as the type and quality of shingles, local climate conditions, and maintenance. As a general guideline, shingle roofs typically require replacement every 20 to 25 years. However, it’s crucial to monitor your roof regularly for signs of damage, deterioration, or leaks. If you notice significant issues such as extensive shingle damage, multiple leaks, or frequent repairs, it may be time to consider replacing your shingle roof.

Shingle roofing offers many advantages, making it a popular choice for many homeowners. First, shingle roofs are affordable and widely available, making them a cost-effective option. They come in different styles, colors, and textures, allowing you to achieve the desired aesthetic for your home. Shingle roofs are relatively easy to install, repair, and maintain, saving time and effort. Additionally, shingle roofs provide good protection against external elements.

The color of shingles can have a slight impact on energy costs, but it is not the determining factor. Lighter-colored shingles, such as white or light gray, reflect more sunlight and heat, helping to reduce cooling costs during hot summers. However, the overall energy efficiency of your home depends on various factors, including insulation, ventilation, and the efficiency of your HVAC system.

The main difference between asphalt shingles and architectural shingles lies in their construction and appearance. Asphalt shingles, also known as 3-tab shingles, are made of a single layer of asphalt and fiberglass mat, providing a traditional, flat look. As for architectural shingles, also called dimensional or laminate shingles, they have multiple layers bonded together to create a three-dimensional, textured appearance that mimics the look of natural materials like wood or slate.

Start by measuring the length and width of each roof section and multiply them to determine the square footage of each section. Add up the square footage of all the sections to get the total square footage of your roof.

Consider any roof features like dormers or chimneys and calculate their square footage separately. Additionally, account for the pitch or slope of your when estimating the number of shingles required. If you’re unsure or prefer professional assistance, our roofing team can visit your property, accurately measure your roof, and provide an estimate for the shingle materials.

In some cases, it is possible to reroof over existing shingles, but it’s important to evaluate the condition of the current roof before proceeding. Reroofing can be a cost-effective option if the existing shingles are in good condition, there’s only one layer of shingles, and there are no underlying structural issues. However, if the existing shingles are severely damaged, there are multiple layers of shingles, or there are signs of structural problems, a complete tear-off and replacement may be necessary. Consult with our roofing professionals for more help!

Schedule regular inspections and maintenance, especially after the monsoon season or heavy winds. Keep gutters clean, trim back overhanging branches, and address minor issues like missing shingles or cracked flashing quickly. Investing in proper attic ventilation also helps prevent heat buildup that can shorten roof life.

Architectural (or dimensional) shingles are a top choice for Phoenix homes thanks to their durability and heat resistance. They hold up better than basic 3-tab shingles and can withstand strong UV exposure and high temperatures. For even more protection, consider shingles with reflective coatings that improve energy efficiency and reduce heat absorption.

The cost of replacing a shingle roof in Phoenix depends on the size of your home, the type of shingles you choose, and the condition of your current roof. On average, homeowners can expect to spend anywhere from $6,000 to $15,000. A free estimate from our team will give you a clear, no-pressure quote.
