Take a look at the reviews our happy clients have left for us. They saw how diligent we were in doing our inspections and working within their budgets. They also like the work ethic that we showed – there is no slacking on our parts. We also communicate with them throughout the whole thing – answering phone calls and replying to questions. We had an active leak in our kitchen and a friend referred us to Canyon State Roofing. The house is 30 years old and it was time for a new roof. Miguel and his crew did a wonderful job. They started the project a couple of days early and worked quickly and efficiently. The work area was cleaned up each day including running magnets to get the nails up. They did such a great job. It was hard to find similar tile but they got pretty close and the new tiles were hidden at the back of the house. The new valleys will really help direct the water away from the house foundation. Much more efficient and the roof looks great. We had a double layer of underlayment put down to help protect the roof! Thanks Jim, Miguel and crew for all your hard work. I would totally recommend this great business if you need a new roof! 😊

Our house had a 26+ year old roof. The cement tiles are good pretty much for a lifetime but it was probably past time to replace the underlayment. We also had a substantial amount of dry rot around some of the edge as well as a few of the bird blocks. I sent out for quotes and got 5 responses. Each contractor quoted similar details for the work. Canyon State was the highest priced but also had the highest review rating. I don’t mind paying extra when I feel I will receive a higher quality product or service because in my experience, the extra effort pays benefits over the life of whatever it is that I’m buying or having repaired. The work was performed by a large group of men who appeared to coordinate their efforts, (everyone seemed to know their duties). Our house size is not overly large and they had what looked potentially like 2 crews doing the job so they were able to get all the work done in a 2 day period and some of that was spent simply waiting for some replacement cement tiles. In my own experience, no big or complex job is ever done perfectly the first time so I always expect issues that require someone to come back and rectify. This job was no different. There were a few things that might have been done better the first time but Canyon came out to address our concerns and after a few additional hours of labor, everything was finished to my satisfaction. There was no argument or debate. The owner simply walked around with me and took pictures and notes and then his supervisor took care of the details. The bottom line is this – would I hire them again? The answer is yes. I might have a more critical eye during the final walkaround in order to avoid having to call them back but the bottom line is that the roof looks much better than the original. We have not yet gotten to experience the monsoon season here since the work was finalized but I do not expect any issues given the quality appearance of the roof, the replaced wood and the tiling. If you are in need of a new roof and/or underlayment, do call these guys for a quote.

Had a roof leak on the backside of my house. Third one in our 27 year old roof. Had Jim at Canyon State Roofing come out and give me a estimate to reroof the house. They removed the tile, replaced the underlayment, broken tiles and also had them replace the trim board below the bird stop. They did it in a timely manner and kept everything tidy and clean during the process. Would recommend them to others.

I am happy to highly recommend Canyon State Roofing and Consulting. We had leaks in multiple areas and knew it was time for work. We had four estimates for our project and felt quite good about a few of the businesses, but here is why we went with Canyon State for our Re-Roof – they were quick to get back to us and schedule an inspection; they (Miguel [Onsite Project Manager], Jim [Owner], Robyn [Scheduler], and Crew) were always kind, considerate, knowledgeable, and patient with questions; the inspection was thorough and included photos and drone photos; Miguel conducted the inspection and thoroughly explained the recommended work and indicated he would be our daily point-of-contact throughout the project; Canyon State has the credentials – A+ BBB since 1996, Clean ROC License (License, Bonded and Insured), Tile Roofing Institute certified, and a Rosie on the House Certified Contractor; they guaranteed the crew would be in-house installers not subcontractors; they offered the best warranties with their contractor warranty matching the manufacturer warranty; and they were absolutely cost competitive. So how did it go? Well, they got us on the schedule promptly; Miguel did an excellent job keeping us informed on progress and works; the crew worked every day (except Sunday) - beginning each day at the same prompt time; the crew cleaned-up daily before leaving the site; we even had a rain event during the install and while Miguel assured us they prepared for that, he still came out to inspect the site that evening. The roof and workmanship by the Crew looks great. Miguel truly took his time to explain the technical aspects of the project and how things needed to be done during installation to ensure the quality work that would guarantee our home would have a roof we could trust for years to come. He was onsite daily to ensure that quality workmanship. And now we are happy to be able to look forward to enjoying rainstorms again!

Wood Shingle Roofing Installations In Phoenix, AZ

Signs It’s Time To Replace Your Tile Roof

Damp And Darkened Shingles In Phoenix

    Moss Or Mold

If you notice moss or mold growth between your roof tiles, it’s a sign that moisture has seeped into your roofing system. Over time, trapped moisture can damage the underlayment and lead to wood rot.

    Twisting Or Misshapen Shingles

    Broken Or Missing Tiles

Cracked, chipped, or missing tiles expose the underlayment to harsh weather conditions. Even small breaks can lead to leaks and structural issues. Replacing damaged tiles promptly is crucial to maintain the integrity of your roof.

Attic And Ceiling Leaks And Holes Due To Roof Issues In Phoenix

Sagging Roof Areas Or Uneven Sections

A sagging or uneven roof indicates potential water damage or weakened decking beneath the tiles. This structural issue should be addressed immediately, as it can compromise your roof’s stability. Our experts inspect these areas to determine what is required.

Stains And Cracked Paint On Ceiling And Walls

    Frequent Repairs

If your roof requires frequent patching or tile replacements, it may be nearing the end of its lifespan. Instead of investing in continuous repairs, a complete roof replacement can provide long-term protection and reduce maintenance costs over time.

    Deterioration In Specific Areas

    Roof Over 20 Years Old

Tile roofs are durable, but age eventually takes its toll. If your roof is more than 20 years old, the underlayment and flashing may fail. An inspection from our staff can help you get the best solution for your roof.

    Deterioration In Specific Areas

    Water Damage Or Leaks

Visible water stains, ceiling spots, or leaks are serious red flags. They often mean that the underlayment has deteriorated and moisture is reaching your home’s interior. Addressing these signs early prevents extensive repairs and ensures your home remains watertight.

    Deterioration In Specific Areas

    Shifting Tiles

If your roof tiles appear loose or misaligned, it may be due to underlayment wear or improper fastening. Shifting tiles allow water intrusion and debris buildup, which accelerates damage. This can be solved with a professional inspection.

    Deterioration In Specific Areas

    Worn or Exposed Underlayment

When the underlayment becomes brittle or visible, it can no longer provide adequate waterproofing. This often occurs after years of heat exposure. Replacing the underlayment ensures continued protection against leaks and prolongs your roof’s lifespan.

    Deterioration In Specific Areas

    Tiles Sliding Out of Place

Sliding tiles usually indicate weakened fasteners or deteriorating underlayment. This issue compromises your roof’s ability to drain water properly. A full roof evaluation helps determine whether reinstallation or complete replacement is the best solution.

    Deterioration In Specific Areas

    Interior Temperature Fluctuations

If your home feels hotter in summer or colder in winter, your tile roof may no longer be insulating effectively. Damaged or outdated roofing materials can let heat escape or penetrate easily. Replacing your roof is an excellent solution for it.

Frequently Asked Questions About Residential Tile Roofing

It depends on your home’s design, budget, and climate. In Phoenix, clay and concrete tiles are the most popular due to their durability and heat resistance. Slate tiles offer elegance and longevity, while synthetic options provide lightweight strength and energy efficiency. In essence, it really depends on what your home actually needs.

Choosing the right tile roofing involves balancing style, performance, and cost. Clay tiles suit traditional or Mediterranean homes, concrete tiles fit modern designs, and synthetic tiles are ideal for lighter roof structures. You can consult with our certified roofing experts to ensure you choose the best material for Arizona’s weather.

In most cases, installing tile roofing over an existing roof is not recommended. A proper installation requires inspecting and replacing the underlayment to guarantee a watertight seal. Removing old materials allows for a thorough evaluation of the roof deck and ensures long-lasting protection.

Tile roofs can last 50 years or more, but the underlayment beneath them typically needs replacement every 15–20 years. Regular inspections help identify when repairs or a full reroofing are necessary to maintain waterproofing and structural integrity, especially in Arizona’s extreme heat.

Maintenance for a tile roof includes annual inspections, cleaning debris, and replacing cracked tiles. Checking flashing and sealing joints helps prevent leaks. Since tile roofs are durable, consistent upkeep is minimal but crucial for preserving appearance and extending lifespan in harsh desert conditions.

Tile roof installation usually takes one to two weeks, depending on your home’s size and complexity. The process includes removing old materials, inspecting the deck, installing new underlayment, and laying tiles with precision. Weather conditions and material availability can also affect timing.

Clay tiles offer superior color retention, longevity, and resistance to fading under Arizona’s sun, while concrete tiles are more affordable and highly durable. The best choice depends on your aesthetic preference, budget, and desired maintenance level. Both options provide long-term protection and beauty.

Tile roof installation costs in Phoenix can vary depending on factors like the size and slope of your roof, the type of tile you choose, and the condition of your existing roofing structure. Clay and slate tiles tend to be the most expensive options due to their classic appearance and long lifespan, while concrete and synthetic tiles are more affordable choices that still offer excellent durability and style. Contact Canyon State Roofing & Consulting today to schedule a free, no-obligation quote, and let our certified experts help you choose the right tile roofing system for lasting protection.

Yes, tile roofs often boost property value because they enhance curb appeal and offer long-term durability. Homebuyers appreciate their aesthetic charm, fire resistance, and energy efficiency. A professionally installed tile roof can make your home more attractive in Arizona’s competitive real estate market.

Tile roofs complement many architectural designs, including Spanish, Mediterranean, Southwestern, and modern homes. While heavier than shingles, they provide an elegant finish and lasting performance. Homes must have the structural strength to support the weight, which professional roofers assess before installation.

Yes, you can combine different tile materials or styles for aesthetic variety, as long as they share compatible thickness, weight, and installation requirements. Mixing clay, concrete, or synthetic tiles can create a unique design, but it’s best done under expert supervision to ensure uniform performance.
